Competitive Analysis

My first task was to conduct a comprehensive competitive analysis. Understanding the features that users liked and disliked in competing products was essential for informing our design process. This research provided our team with valuable insights and helped shape a new earbud concept, ensuring we addressed gaps in the market and met user needs more effectively.

Fit, Stability, and Comfort Testing

Throughout the project, I conducted multiple iterations of fit and comfort tests using 3D printed prototypes. The goal was to design an earbud that offered long-term comfort without sacrificing fit or stability. These tests not only focused on the overall design of the earbud body but also the ear tip. Our team took previous design flaws into account and implemented changes to the shape, materials, and functionality of the ear tip, ensuring that it provided both comfort and the best possible audio experience for users.

Usability Testing

During the design process, I led several usability tests to refine user interactions. These tests included essential functions such as don/doff (putting on and taking off) and storing the earbuds. It was crucial to ensure the earbuds were easy to wear, use, and store, providing users with intuitive affordances.

In addition, I conducted usability tests on the UI design. Our team aimed to create a single-button UI loop that allowed users to perform multiple functions without the complexity of a traditional UI. This required careful iteration and testing to ensure the interaction was simple, efficient, and user-friendly.

Accessibility Testing

As the lead of accessibility testing, I developed a comprehensive test plan to assess the earbuds' usability for individuals with specific needs. This included users who are mobile impaired, colorblind, or have limited vision. The goal was to ensure that the earbuds were accessible to a broad audience and provided an inclusive experience, meeting the diverse needs of all potential users.
